Licensing of exporting certain types of timber to be introduced in Belarus from February

In February 6, 2017

A recent meeting on timber industry focused on round timber export. On the one hand, the task is to develop this resource ad fully as possible against the background of wood processing industry modernisation to make as much revenue as possible.

However, due to a large-scale felling of trees observed in Belarus last year as a result of hurricane winds, the country’s wood processing plants were not able to process the large amounts of timber. As an exception to the rule, the Ministry of Forestry received a permission to export 4 million cubic meters of raw materials.

In the meantime, cases of shady-scheme export of timber abroad have been registered, when saw log is exported under the guise of stakes or poles. A decree on licensing such products will come into force in February.

1 May is the deadline for restoring order in the forests. The President has suggested increasing penalties for delivering garbage to forest territories.
